Paddling Links

Here are some of our favorite paddling links and organizations on the World Wide Web:

  • The American Canoe Association (ACA) - Dedicated to helping people enjoy the outdoors using kayaks, canoes, and rafts since 1880.

  • American Rivers.org - Paddlers need water. Help protect and restore our nation's rivers.

  • A Paddling Lexicon - Learn the unique vocabulary associated with kayaking, canoeing, and all things paddling related.

  • Kayak Building Bulletin Board - The best online forum for discussing the ins and outs of building a kayak, sponsored by Guillemot Kayaks.

  • KayakGuide.com - An online directory of places to paddle, primarily in the United States, with the option to post trip reports of your own. The web designer also appears to be a big fan of bananas. (That's a joke. Just go visit and you'll see.)

  • Kayak World Map - An interactive map of people, places, pictures, events, and other stuff relevant to paddling. This nifty tool has the potential to turn into a terrific paddling resource with a little nurturing from techno-savvy paddlers.

  • Leave No Trace - The seven principles of the "Leave No Trace" outdoor ethic. The wilderness would be a better, cleaner, more enjoyable place if everyone adhered to these sensible standards.

  • National Park Foundation - Working hard to strengthen the enduring relationship between the American people and their National Parks.

  • Paddling Iowa - A great resource for information about paddling opportunities in Iowa, co-created by the author of the equally handy paddling book Paddling Iowa.

  • Paddling.net - Lots of great information about canoeing and kayaking, including articles, places to paddle, product reviews, and much more.

  • Paddling Events Bulletin Board - A free bulletin board for paddling-related announcements and events. This service brought to you by RoguePaddler.

  • Professional Paddlesports Association - The premier trade association promoting paddlesports (canoeing, kayaking, and rafting) in the United States and internationally.

  • Quajaq.be - A superb, organized collection of links to all things kayaking-related, with a bias toward kayak building. You could lose whole hours of your life browsing this site.

  • Seapaddler.co.uk - A collection of articles and resources dedicated specifically to sea kayaking.

  • University of Sea Kayaking (USK) - USK offers videos, classes, clinics, and instructional tours to promote education in sea kayaking. Check out their "Quicktips" and "Skill of the Month" sections.
