Hi,
It sounds from the description that it could be an old-school whitewater boat. Those were about 10-13 ft. long and the hull had plenty of rocker from front to back. Great for going down rapids, but they'll drive you nuts to paddle straight for much distance on flatwater. Try paddling at a higher angle, with the blade as close to the boat as possible during the stroke so less effort goes to turning the boat.
